Miscellaneous Tips, Tools and other fiber related things

While I was making this piece and trying to ensure that they stay in place before sewing them down, what if I just tack them down with a dot of super glue they will be right where I needed them and can move the piece around as I sew them all in their place. This was quite a game changer for me.

I found that I always was missing my needles and needle threaders so I found a magnetized sheet and some magnets. I glued the magnets to the threaders and set them on the sheet. Now the needles will not go missing, OUCH! You know what I mean😉

I bought this hook set years ago. I have not used them not sure why. I guess I was just collecting different hooks at the time.

If you have a florist or floral wholesaler in your area and you catch them when flowers are delivered, these plastic covers are on the single stemmed mums. These make great sleeves for yarns.

I found this fishing tool box to use for all my odds and ends tools.

I’m not sure if these are still around but if they are I suggest getting them if you work in yarns. These items break into the spun yarns so as you weave in ends they grab hold so the yarns will not come out.

I believe these steel angled needles also a great tool to weave ends in as these items break into the spun yarns so as you weave in ends they grab hold so the yarns will not come out.

Not sure if anybody else does this but I use my tablet, watch and or phone to track my time when working. I use the stop watch function. Start it up when I start then pause it when I need to step away from designing. When I am able to get back to it I start it up again. I can continue the stopwatch the next day or so but I log it at the end of my day and log it on my spreadsheets. I know it seems to take all the fun out of being creative but if one is curious about their time spent it’s a way to do it.

I posted on my blog today about how I make a spreadsheet (with pictures) for each of my designs. I have 4 tabs.

1. Cover sheet with progress pictures
2. Labor $
3. Supplies list with costs
4. Notes page.

Just FYI my job life was creating, reading and analyzing spreadsheets for businesses. Being creative was my soul work. I love both activities as it uses both left and right brain.Data, Data, Data and more Data

P.S. The hourly prices are not correct. I altered them lower for these pictures.😁

One of my all time favorite inspirational writers is Revered (don’t let that stop you from looking him up) J. R. Miller. His book I keep near me is called “Silent Times”.

If something happens to you do you first ask what could YOU have done differently to get a different outcome. Can you use a reply without using “but” to justify the outcome?

Does every sentence have to start with the word “so”? Several years ago it was “UM“. Is this college education taught?

I guess I should say rewinding yarn🧶. Did not like how a piece was working out so undone yarn and starting over.

I found these bags at our local Restore. They are zip topped and I think the blue shade will keep yarn from fading. The size is 25” X 13”

I have found this pictures a great help in seeing and picking types of yarns

Crochet books that inspire me. One that I do not have a picture of is Modular Crochet by Judith Copeland
