My Keto Journey

What is a blog, art or otherwise that one finds things that non artistic things influence them. Below are a few things that have. Things that mean something or effect me during my journey through fiber art designing.

Keto

Keto-Several years ago I started having trouble with my bowels. I tried many things to alleviate the problems I was having. This being using Imodium then other times a laxative to again change elimination since the one or the other was not working. Just a few days a week did I have a normal system. I tried changing my eating style too. Researched so many different things. I was finally insurance rich (turned 65) and decided to go to a Dr. I went through several tests and came to no conclusions. We decided to have a colonoscopy. Between the time of the colonoscopy and my research into #Keto I decided to try #Keto. Much to my surprise, in just a few days, my system was acting normally. Yes, normally. I was still leery if it was a long term change or just because I once again tried something different. I am happy to say that in almost three months I am still having a regular system. My colonoscopy was done and just a few (2) polyps (non cancerous) was all that was the outcome. This also showed me that, it was not my Achilles heal (my intestines). I am so happy that I am cleared up from all my prior symptoms that I have fought with for many, many years. Also a plus has been less joint pain, skin is clearer and not as puffy plus more energy and able to exercise. If you have had any bowel systems please try #Keto. There are so many food alternatives on #Keto that make up for presumed loss of sweets, spicy, and flour laden foods. I never liked to cook much but many of the recipes are developed are for just one or two servings so if you don’t like them it is not to difficult to try. I did invest in a #Dash https://www.bydash.com/product/dash-mini-maker-waffle/ mini waffle maker and yesterday my partner said I might need to get a backup one because I use it so much. These also are pretty inexpensive if you are the only one in your family that is changing to a #Keto lifestyle (my partner is not doing #Keto). Now… as to just the reason to use it to loose weight. I am not sure #Keto is an answer for you as I have come to understand, it is a #lifestyle not a diet. Yes, you will and can loose weight but because you are eliminating sugar, wheat flours and limiting carbohydrates, fats and proteins it means you will for the most part, be permanently changing what and how much you put into your system and how your system will now work. I liken it to changing to a different grade gas, like from diesel fuels to regular gasoline engine. So I want to tell you, if you try #Keto, do it for better health. http://ketogeniclifestyle.org/ and there are more. I have no affiliation with any of the Keto places I have sited. Look into YouTube, search online (via Duck Duck Go), and your local library. I will also suggest to look into many documentaries that talk about how bad our diet is for us. Documentaries such as: https://www.eatthis.com/best-food-documentaries/. I do want to stress, I am not thinking this is a diet. I am not vegetarian or vegan #Keto is not either. Limiting carbohydrates and adjusting protein and fats to aide in body adjustments. This link says to you that there are many different levels of #Keto lifestyle (I’m sorry to say that many of the sites call it a diet and that’s because it catchy). https://www.health.com/weight-loss/keto-diet-types I will post several recipe links of recipes that I have tried on my journey of my lifestyle change to #Keto. Thank you for reading my journey with #Keto. September 6th 2021 I’m still on #Keto and doing great! I had been walking twice a day but it had gotten too hot to walk so I started going to the gym. I decided after all the walking I need to work on my upper arms so work on the rowing machine and arm presses machine. So if you are still on the fence of doing Keto please give it a try. Eating better and so much healthier.

Keto my story

My diet is Keto based. I spent most of my adult life being challenged with food elimination. As a child I could not eat many vegetables cooked or raw, no milk and things made with milk. Anything that had to be “digested”. So this went on for a long time but… being a child of a single mother and 4 other children I had to eat what was cooked for all family members and as it follows; fast and “cheap” foods.

Well…that did not help me and spent my youth using elimination products i.e. enemas, bulking agents, diarrhea agents just to see if I could balance my system. This was years and years of trying to balance my system.

About two years ago after being told I was pre-diabetic and over weight. I began to research what would make the elimination process better as I thought I had a slow digestive system. I embraced it whole heartily and within a few months I was able to walk several miles a day. Went to a small gym in my area and began to work out. I lost weight BUT that was not my motivation. I just wanted to feel better and I surmised if I could get it moving through my system sooner it could help. Well… it did that and more.

Well as of 2 years I tried this. Once I started the Keto way of life, ALL OF MY ELIMATION troubles left me. 65 years of body elimination difficulties reduced and pardon the pun, eliminated.

I had been wobbly (not balanced) most times and that stopped very quickly after starting. My memory was getting troublesome and that too mostly has gone away replaced with better memory. Attention span got better. I lost 55 lbs also. I leaned towards carnivore later mostly because I am heading towards 68 soon and fat seemed less necessary.

I also started fasting later in the process. Mostly because I was not as hungry. Not like a fanatic but I do try to eat between 10AM to 4PM. That’s when I am most active.

I did have to learn a new way of cooking, to be honest, to start cooking for myself. Since bread, rice, pasta, potatoes and many other things fell off the staples list, I had to relearn how to make things. I thought this was going to be a chore but I found it to be fun. Yes fun.

I hope if you find yourself in similar problems that I have had please, consider and research for yourself what this might offer you but be aware that it is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE NOT a diet.

Keto podcast that gave me a fake meat aha moment

I was listening to “The Plant Free MDEpisode #76 with Dr. Anthony Chaffee MD. I suggest listening but be prepared for a weaving conversation. As I was listening, I had an AAAHA moment, as he was talking, I thought that’s why they want us to not eat meat! He was saying that through our evolution we were meat eaters and because of this the nutrients we derived from this eating we were able to develop our brains to “THINK”. As our evolution went on we were able to THINK through problems and find solutions.

To put this in BIG thinking, what if there is an opportunity for the people that are in power or financial power to stop us from THINKING because they are trying to take meat away from society so we will be unable to THINK and resolve our future challenges.

He talks about chimpanzees and since they are not carnivores their evolution has not taken the same directions as humans because of the not eating of meat.

I found this astounding given our current brainwashing to not eat meat but to eat meat like (vegetables) foods. The nutrient values are in question.

So while we still have time and are able to THINK please look into this yourself. The healing of my body and the clarity that I have received through this way of eating, has healed a life long body challenges and I have so much more clarity of situations.

I started listening to his episode #77 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-plant-free-md-with-dr-anthony-chaffee/id1614546790 and it was great too!

One of my all time favorite inspirational writes is Revered (don’t let that stop you from looking him up) J. R. Miller. His book I keep near me is called “Silent Times”.

If something happens to you do you first ask what could YOU have done differently to get a different outcome. Can you use a reply without using “but” to justify the outcome?

’m not real big on posting a photo of me but. I have been on a journey that has taken me from not feeling good to feeling great.

Below is my health journey so far Today I turned 68 and I feel great! Started my keto journey at the height of tired of being sick and tired.

I lost over 55 lbs. wore size 2x shirts now large (could wear medium but like comfort over style). Wore size 18 in pants now size 8.

My biggest issue before keto was my bowels. All my life my bowels have been horrible, born that way and always thought I just had to live with enemas, pills that unstopped them then ones at would start them going again. 66 years of this process to be ended in a month of keto. That is totally gone!

No scale watcher hear as it was about feeling BETTER in my own skin (flabby as it was early on.) I do not wish to have the same body as I had in my 20s as it was not healthy (skinny but terrible health).

Birthday meal was beef and broccoli that’s all I needed. Do not want or care for birthday cake to celebrate. Being able to walk 4 miles today without being winded or knees hurting is the best gift.

Please I can not say this enough—- it is to be able to have the best health you can achieve through eating and exercise in a manor that gives you the best health. Weight will come off naturally as long as you control your intake/activity.
We as women over 60 “we” should be looking towards better health not a 20 something body.
Your body is not static.
Weight loss is not the only outcome you should be looking to achieve the best health is.

Tip I thought of

Everybody probably knew this but me but…

I use a lot of cream cheese and butter but always think of using it at the last minute so put out on counter to warm. Well I seem to forget it and so it goes back to fridge until I can remember it again.

SO…I thought well how about putting it or both in my crock pot setting it on low or warm. Well licitly split it’s perfectly soft and ready to use.

I can even mix them in the crock pot. Wow! What a game changer for me.

Happy birthday to me

Making fat bombs a little easier.

Well, I found a great idea when making fat bombs. Since you need to soften butter and cream cheese and I rarely remember to get it out to let it soften sooo… I put the cream cheese and butter in my small crock pot. Turn it on warm or low (depending on how impatient you are) and let it warm the ingredients. Turn it off. I also mixed the two ingredients with my hand mixer in the crockery (off the heater element). Added the remains items then scooped it out of the crockpot. Hope I explained it well enough.

Radishes oh my!

We planted radishes this year in our garden. Picked them all, or so we thought. We went out yesterday and found these huge radishes. they are firm and not pithy feeling.

Now radish (potato) salad or…
