About Me, really?

I was told that if I posted a picture of myself one might engage more with my art so…. Tada a selfie. Be aware this might change or additional pictures of me might appear or disappear.

Hi! It’s the new me.

“I create dimensional/sculptural pieces in wool yarns”. I seek to untwist wool yarns.

My life in the arts was based on my being a lifelong learner. My mother was inventive as she took care of 5 children on her own.

I learned the trade of floral designing (thank you sister Deb.) and it served me well my entire working life as it gave me the artistic outlet and put food on the table .

During my teenage years I was taught to crochet (thank you again sister Deb) and that has been a stabilizing thread throughout my years and continues today. I however, always was crocheting as a learning experience. Not taking to doing patterns, just the stitches and that wandering has given me the current path to the art I present today.

In 2000 two people Molly Andries and Jerry Ridgon each were doing to different type of crocheting. Molly was felting crochet and Jerry was scrumbling. I liked both processes and attempted to merge them together. Did it work you ask? You bet it did! It opened up such a floodgate of potential movements of yarn, hooks and felting that I absolutely loved. The known, unknown of this process was fascinating.

Molly’s felting and Jerry’s scrumbling. My inspirations

Questions like; what if…. I mixed wool and non-wool yarns together and felted them what would happen then. What if… this type of wool and this type of mixed wool blend, what would that look like after felting.? Once the felting process was done what if… I embellished it with beads and other objects? Stacking wool on top of wool then felting. Scrumbling in wool then felting it? How long does it take for the wool to felt up? Being that it is crochet stitches how and what stitch felted the best? The list of what ifs go on and on for me.

Knitting and felting of wool is very different than crochet and felting. Just the stitches alone are different and present different felts. Crochet felting is a little more laborious because the stitches themselves are vertical stitches whereas knitting stitches are horizontal. I could go on and on but this page was to be about me😉 🧶

The wonderment of all these different paths guides me every day. In 2018 for my birthday, I found an old Speed Queen wringer washing machine. No more worrying about my clothing washing machine giving out because of the felting process.

I started posting to Instagram and found several things that my “about me” seemed missing. I never had pink, purple, yellow hair or painted/press on finger nails, or dressed outlandishly. Now these things are fun for many and it is a way to get noticed. I preferred to hone my art and worked in the floral industry which did not allow for hand embellishment.

Me – see there was a time I did not have gray hair

Where else would I be??

I’ve been accused but I vehemently deny it!!!
