I’m on fire

I decided to experiment with cleaning up felted wool in a slightly different way.

I usually shear it after it’s felted (and still will do) because all the fibers get fuzzy and slightly mask the original colors before the felting process.

I decided to burn with a lighter the wool in places where the color is muted.

I’m quite satisfied with the results. As you can see how muted the two brown stripes and one is brighter. I burned the brighter brown one.

The rust ones have already been sheered and burned, I forgot to take photo of before burning them but they were vey muted. I have not done the cream ones yet.

The wool does not “flame up” so no need to worry about catching on fire plus I do a little at a time.

It does need to be lightly brushed off to remove the burnt wool. I use a small wire brush.

This piece still has much work to be done on it but wanted to show the difference of the burning process.

*note beware of burning the lighter colors too much as it tends to brown them a little.
